Why rename to Amalga?

For years, the Amalga engine has quietly powered our platform behind the scenes. It’s the same ahead-of-its-time platform that’s been running your workflows for years - we’re simply putting its name on the sign. No new product, just a clearer promise.

When data flows, care flows.

Built for the frontline

Renaming Hospitals to Amalga signals our single-minded focus on connecting data silos and creating next-generation hospital systems built for the frontline.

McCrae Tech’s divestment from Orion Health in 2025 was an opportunity to refocus our vision, and we were inspired by a technology that was so ahead of its time.

Orion Health acquired Amalga from Microsoft in 2012, renaming it Hospitals and evolving a platform built to unify clinical and operational data into one of the world’s most advanced Hospital Information Systems. Shaped by real-world demands across Australasia and South East Asia, we added a modular framework and robust orchestration capabilities deployable in any environment. Amalga’s open APIs, standards-based integrations and cloud-native tools now enable healthcare providers to customise and scale operations rapidly.

Today, we’re simply putting it’s name back on the label, one that reflects the platform’s legacy of high-quality and secure development instilled by Microsoft, together with our vision of connected data = connected care.

Amalga’s agility, openness and innovation continue to help deliver exceptional care to 30+ hospitals and 5000+ beds globally.
