Franklin Hospital launches Amalga EPR
Auckland, 12 May 2025 – People in the Franklin District can now look forward to faster, more connected, and less fragmented care, following the go-live of a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system at Franklin Hospital. The system is from Amalga - the McCrae Tech company formerly known as McCrae Hospitals.
The rollout, delivered in partnership with Orion Health, began in September 2024 and concludes this month. Once fully implemented, the system will support every department at the hospital, streamlining both clinical and administrative workflows and providing a clearer view of each patient’s journey.
Covering Patient Administration, Surgical Management, Revenue Cycle Management, Inventory Management, and a fully integrated Clinical Workstation from Orion Health, the new system is designed to improve operational efficiency, support safe decision-making, and ease the admin burden on healthcare workers.
“Franklin Hospital is proud to deliver excellent patient outcomes for our community.” said Dr. Creasan Reddy, Founder and CEO of Franklin Hospital. “We strive to be innovative and a leader in technological advancement to continue to deliver on this promise.
It was therefore a no-brainer to invest in our digital infrastructure to allow better interactions between surgeons, staff and patients.
This also allows us to transition our current systems to a paperless one, which can only be good for our community and environment.”
Clinical Workstation includes a unified patient record, progress notes, dynamic dashboards for theatre and endoscopy, and integration with national systems. Housing all necessary forms and clinical checklists, it allows clinicians to coordinate care safely and efficiently before, during, and after procedures.
Niru Rajakumar, CEO of Amalga, which developed and delivered the system, said: “We’re honoured to support Franklin’s commitment to their community. This go-live shows what’s possible when local technology is designed and implemented hand-in-hand with the people delivering frontline care.”
The project also marks a major milestone for Amalga: Its first deployment since separating from Orion Health and becoming an independent brand under McCrae Tech.
Carey Campbell, Clinical Director at Amalga, described it as tangible proof of the successful Franklin Hospital and Amalga partnership “Great technology should be intuitive for the teams using it. We designed this system to support real-world workflows in the clinical setting – so nurses, anaesthetic technicians and other clinicians can focus on their patients, with software supporting practice, not getting in the way”.
