McCrae Tech Hospitals renames to Amalga. Same Proven Platform, Sharper Promise
Amalga reflects the platform’s legacy and future focus, continuing to power 30+ hospitals and 5000+ beds across New Zealand and Southeast Asia.
Auckland, 27 August 2025 – McCrae Tech Hospitals today announced its rename to Amalga, a move that reflects both continuity and evolution. The platform remains the same proven solution trusted by hospitals for more than a decade, now carrying the name of the powerful engine that has always driven it.
From Microsoft to McCrae Tech – a name that comes full circle
First developed by Microsoft, acquired by Orion Health in 2012, and shaped by hospital partnerships across Australasia and Southeast Asia, Amalga has grown into one of the world’s most advanced modular hospital systems.
With McCrae Tech’s 2025 spin-off from Orion Health, founder Ian McCrae and CEO Niru Rajakumar chose to return to the platform’s original name: Amalga.
“Hospitals across NZ and Southeast Asia know and trust our system to keep care moving. Renaming to Amalga is about clarity, making sure the platform’s identity matches the value it’s delivered for years,” said Rajakumar.
Continuity, not disruption
Same people, same support, same workflows
A clearer name, a sharper promise
Trusted in the region, built for the frontline
Amalga continues to help hospitals cut silos, reduce admin, and empower clinicians to focus on patients, whether in large public systems or fast-growing private hospitals.
Key facts:
Powers 30+ hospitals and 5000+ beds across NZ and Southeast Asia
Fully modular, interoperable, and cloud-native
Built for clinicians and administrators alike
When data flows, care flows. Always in the platform. Now in the name.
